DANNY LYON: Thirty Photographs Portfolio, 1962-1980
Atlas is thrilled to present a recently released portfolio edited by Danny Lyon comprising his 30 greatest images from all of the major projects.
Lyon, born in New York in 1942, first started photographing in the early 1960’s as a staff photographer for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee at the University of Chicago. His earliest photographs were published in a book on the Southern Civil Rights Movement, and during his career he has studied and photographed death-row inmates, street kids and the transformation of the urban make-up of lower Manhattan.
A fascination with humanitarian issues and the grittier communities on the edge of society has always formed the basis of his work, of which The Bikeriders is probably the most celebrated. He is regarded as one of the most important documentary photographers of the last 50 years and contemporary photographers including Nan Goldin and Larry Clark count Lyon as a huge influence in their work.
The portfolio includes 30 gelatin silver prints 11 x 14 inches plus a colophon, title list and an essay, housed in a custom clamshell box.
The current price for the portfolio is $80,000; please note the edition is tiered ad the price will increase while the edition sells out.
Contemporary individual 11 x 14 inches prints are also available, priced $ 7,000 each.
