This week Atlas presents an exceptional collection of prints by Sam Haskins, offered for sale here for the first time, which the artist had prepared in his later years, comprising images which defined his mark on photography.

Only discovered after his death in November 2009, the box contains Haskins’ own edit of the 26 most seminal images from his career, printed on Hahnemüle paper. The prints all bear his signature, a rarity in the Sam Haskins Estate as Sam died with little long term planning leaving only roughly 1% of his archive signed.

Haskins was a highly prolific creative photographer. These 26 images are an unique collection, a one-off, one-time, single-copy edit, compiled by the artist as a definitive museum portfolio.

At that moment, at the age of 79, in his newly built home in Australia, working quietly and alone in his studio, his thoughts were leading him to review his career and assess the key images for which he would be remembered by posterity. By any standards they are utterly beautiful and powerful images and many of them played a key role in changing the course of post-war photography.
26 Pigment prints, printed 2005 Each sheet individually signed Paper size: 32.9 cm x 48.3 cm Image size: Approx 28cm x 44cm, with individual variations Each individually matted, presented in a bespoke conservation museum box.
