John Messinger
Overview
John Messinger is a conceptual artist, photographer, and educator who works and lives between New York and Los Angeles.
Best known for his abstract, large-scale work, Messinger assembles thousands of individual Fujifilm Instant images created with a Polaroid Land Camera to create one-of-a-kind photographic tapestries. His expansive artworks hold a visual and contextual depth. Messinger explores the notions of perception, time, and the relationship between photography, photographer, and subject.
His artwork has been featured by W Magazine and Photograph Magazine, and was recently selected by Artfetch as one of “The Top Ten Digital Artists Defining The Medium.” He has worked as a freelance photographer for The New York Times Magazine and The Wall Street Journal. Most recently, he was commissioned by the FujiFilm Corporation to produce 6 original works for their permanent collection.
