Atlas Gallery is delighted to announce the first solo exhibition of the Italian master of photography, Franco Fontana. ‘Language of Colour’ will run from the 16th June – 4th September 2021. The show will comprise a variety of works from 1970s to 2017, including extra large master prints and an amazing group of unique polaroids.

Born in Modena in 1933, Fontana is one of the pioneers of colour photography, who started his artistic research in the 60’s – a decade before colour photography began to be accepted as a creative medium – and has devoted his entire career to developing his own unique visual language.

Since the 1980s, Fontana has carried out a parallel production to his well known colourful landscapes – in the form of a series of intimate, frequently playful Polaroids. A more immediate medium, communicating a direct emotion rather than a meditated composition, the themes dear to Fontana are all present in these little visual moments where ‘scapes’ of all forms – land, urban, and body – are captured through their bright colours and perspective illusions, with an added dose of light-hearted humour.
